Meaning
Uvasaggaharam Stotra English Meaning
I bow to Lord Parshva, attended by the yaksha Parshva who removes afflictions (or: to Parshva, remover of afflictions) — the Lord freed from the dense mass of karma, who destroys the venom of serpents, the abode of auspiciousness and well-being. Whoever always holds the Visahara-phulinga mantra at the throat — for that person the troubles of malefic planets, disease, epidemic and malignant fever are pacified. Let the mantra stay aside: even a bow to you bears great fruit. Through it, beings born even as humans or animals do not meet sorrow or misfortune. When they have gained right faith (samyaktva) in you, which surpasses the wish-fulfilling gem and the wish-granting tree, beings reach without obstacle the state beyond old age and death. Thus have I praised you, O glorious one, with a heart brimming with devotion. Therefore, O Lord Parshva, moon among the Jinas, grant me bodhi (true awakening) in birth after birth.

Significance
Uvasaggaharam Stotra Significance
A five-verse Prakrit hymn to Parshvanatha, the 23rd Tirthankara, traditionally attributed to Acharya Bhadrabahu Swami; the story told with it links its composition to the rivalry with his brother Varahamihira. It is the second of the Nava Smarana, is recited as the stavan in the Shvetambara evening Pratikraman, and is chanted daily by many to ward off obstacles (upasarga). Its second verse refers to the 'Visahara-phulinga' mantra, which the commentaries find hidden in the hymn. The text follows the Shvetambara Murtipujak sutra books.
