Thumak Chalat Ramachandra Lyrics

Meaning

Thumak Chalat Ramachandra English Meaning

Little Ramachandra walks with toddling steps, and his tiny anklets jingle. Gurgling with delight he jumps up and runs, then totters and tumbles to the ground; his mothers, Dasharatha's queens, rush to lift him into their laps. With the hems of their saris they brush the dust from his limbs and pet him in every way; offering up body, mind and wealth for him again and again, they murmur soft, loving words. His lips are red as coral, and sweet, sweet words come from his mouth; a pretty pendant dangles from his lovely nose. Tulsidas is overjoyed to gaze on his lotus face. Raghuvar's beauty can be compared only with Raghuvar's own beauty.

Significance

Thumak Chalat Ramachandra Significance

A much-loved bhajan picturing the infant Rama toddling about Dasharatha's palace with his anklets jingling, while the queens run to pick him up, dust him off and fuss over him. It carries the signature of Tulsidas and is traditionally attributed to him, but it is not found in his Gitavali, where his songs of Rama's childhood are collected, so the attribution is traditional only. It is sung on Ram Navami, at gatherings for children and in bhajan sessions; singers repeat the opening refrain after every stanza.
