बाल समय रवि भक्षि लियो तब तीनहुँ लोक भयो अँधियारो। ताहि सों त्रास भयो जग को यह संकट काहु सों जात न टारो। देवन आनि करी बिनती तब छाँड़ि दियो रवि कष्ट निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥१॥ बालि की त्रास कपीस बसै गिरि जात महाप्रभु पंथ निहारो। चौंकि महा मुनि साप दियो तब चाहिय कौन बिचार बिचारो। कै द्विज रूप लिवाय महाप्रभु सो तुम दास के सोक निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥२॥ अंगद के सँग लेन गये सिय खोज कपीस यह बैन उचारो। जीवत ना बचिहौ हम सो जु बिना सुधि लाए इहाँ पगु धारो। हेरि थके तट सिंधु सबै तब लाय सिया सुधि प्रान उबारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥३॥ रावन त्रास दई सिय को सब राक्षसि सों कहि सोक निवारो। ताहि समय हनुमान महाप्रभु जाय महा रजनीचर मारो। चाहत सीय असोक सों आगि सु दै प्रभु मुद्रिका सोक निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥४॥ बान लग्यो उर लछिमन के तब प्रान तजे सुत रावन मारो। लै गृह बैद्य सुषेन समेत तबै गिरि द्रोन सु बीर उपारो। आनि सजीवन हाथ दई तब लछिमन के तुम प्रान उबारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥५॥ रावन जुद्ध अजान कियो तब नाग कि फाँस सबै सिर डारो। श्रीरघुनाथ समेत सबै दल मोह भयो यह संकट भारो। आनि खगेस तबै हनुमान जु बंधन काटि सुत्रास निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥६॥ बंधु समेत जबै अहिरावन लै रघुनाथ पताल सिधारो। देबिहिं पूजि भली बिधि सों बलि देउ सबै मिलि मंत्र बिचारो। जाय सहाय भयो तब ही अहिरावन सैन्य समेत सँहारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥७॥ काज किये बड़ देवन के तुम बीर महाप्रभु देखि बिचारो। कौन सो संकट मोर गरीब को जो तुमसों नहिं जात है टारो। बेगि हरो हनुमान महाप्रभु जो कछु संकट होय हमारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥८॥ लाल देह लाली लसे अरु धरि लाल लँगूर। बज्र देह दानव दलन जय जय जय कपि सूर॥

Sankatmochan Hanumanashtak English Meaning
As a child you swallowed the sun, and all three worlds fell into darkness. The whole world was terrified, and no one could lift that calamity. Then the gods came and pleaded with you, and you released the sun and ended their distress. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan, the remover of troubles? In fear of Vali, Sugriva, king of the monkeys, lived on the mountain, watching the road for the great Lord. A great sage, provoked, had once laid a curse that kept Vali away, and Sugriva wondered what he should do. Taking the form of a brahmin, you brought the great Lord to him and so ended the sorrow of the Lord's servant. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? When the monkeys set out with Angada to search for Sita, their king Sugriva declared: 'If you set foot here again without news of her, you will not escape me alive.' All of them searched until they were worn out on the ocean shore; then you brought news of Sita and saved their lives. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? Ravana tormented Sita and told all the demonesses to talk her out of her grief. At that time, great Lord Hanuman, you went there and struck down mighty demons. When Sita begged the Ashoka tree for fire, you gave her the Lord's ring and took away her sorrow. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? When the arrow shot by Ravana's son struck Lakshmana in the chest, his life was ebbing away. You, mighty hero, brought the physician Sushena with his very house, and then uprooted Mount Drona. You brought the sanjivani herb and put it into their hands, and so you saved Lakshmana's life. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? When Ravana's side fought by stealth and cast the serpent noose over everyone, Shri Raghunatha and the whole army fell senseless; it was a grave crisis. Then, Hanuman, you brought Garuda, king of birds, who cut the bonds, and you removed that great terror. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? When Ahiravana carried Raghunatha and his brother off to the netherworld, worshipped his goddess with full rites, and plotted with all his followers to offer them as a sacrifice, you went there to help and destroyed Ahiravana together with his army. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? You have accomplished great works for the gods, mighty hero and great lord; consider this: what trouble of a poor soul like me could there be that you cannot remove? Great Lord Hanuman, swiftly take away whatever trouble is mine. Who in the world does not know, O mighty monkey, that your name is Sankatmochan? Your red body glows with crimson, and you bear a red tail; your body is hard as a thunderbolt, you crush the demons. Victory, victory, victory to the heroic monkey!

बचपन में आपने सूर्य को निगल लिया, जिससे तीनों लोकों में अँधेरा छा गया। सारा संसार भयभीत हो उठा और यह संकट किसी से टल नहीं रहा था। तब देवताओं ने आकर विनती की और आपने सूर्य को छोड़कर उनका कष्ट मिटाया। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? बालि के डर से वानरराज सुग्रीव पर्वत पर रहते थे और महाप्रभु श्रीराम की राह देखते थे। एक महामुनि के शाप के कारण बालि उस पर्वत पर नहीं आ सकता था, फिर भी सुग्रीव सोच में थे कि क्या उपाय करें। आपने ब्राह्मण का रूप धरकर प्रभु को उनके पास पहुँचाया और प्रभु के उस दास का शोक दूर किया। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? जब वानर अंगद के साथ सीता की खोज में निकले, तब वानरराज सुग्रीव ने कहा था — सीता का समाचार लाए बिना यहाँ पैर रखा तो तुम मुझसे जीवित नहीं बचोगे। सब समुद्र के तट पर खोजते-खोजते थक गए, तब आपने सीता का समाचार लाकर उनके प्राण बचाए। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? रावण ने सीता को बहुत सताया और सब राक्षसियों से कहा कि उन्हें समझा-बुझाकर उनका शोक भुला दें। उसी समय, हे महाप्रभु हनुमान, आपने वहाँ जाकर बड़े-बड़े राक्षसों को मारा। जब सीता अशोक वृक्ष से अग्नि माँग रही थीं, तब आपने प्रभु की अँगूठी देकर उनका शोक दूर किया। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? जब रावण के पुत्र का चलाया बाण लक्ष्मण की छाती में लगा, तब उनके प्राण छूटने लगे। हे वीर, आप वैद्य सुषेण को उनके घर सहित उठा लाए और फिर द्रोण पर्वत को उखाड़ लाए। संजीवनी बूटी लाकर हाथ में दी और लक्ष्मण के प्राण बचाए। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? जब रावण ने छिपकर युद्ध किया और सब पर नागपाश डाल दिया, तब श्रीरघुनाथ सहित सारी सेना मूर्च्छित हो गई; यह बड़ा भारी संकट था। तब हे हनुमान, आप पक्षिराज गरुड़ को ले आए, जिन्होंने बन्धन काट डाले, और आपने वह भय दूर किया। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? जब अहिरावण श्रीरघुनाथ को उनके भाई सहित पाताल ले गया, और विधिपूर्वक देवी की पूजा करके सबने मिलकर उनकी बलि देने की योजना बनाई, तब आपने वहाँ जाकर सहायता की और अहिरावण को उसकी सेना सहित मार डाला। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? हे वीर महाप्रभु, आपने देवताओं के बड़े-बड़े काम किए हैं; सोचकर देखिए, मुझ दीन का ऐसा कौन-सा संकट है जो आपसे टल न सके? हे महाप्रभु हनुमान, मेरा जो भी संकट हो, उसे शीघ्र हर लीजिए। हे कपि, संसार में कौन नहीं जानता कि आपका नाम संकटमोचन है? आपका लाल शरीर लालिमा से शोभित है और आप लाल पूँछ धारण करते हैं; आपका शरीर वज्र के समान कठोर है और आप दानवों का संहार करते हैं। हे वीर कपि, आपकी जय हो, जय हो, जय हो!

Sankatmochan Hanumanashtak Significance
Eight savaiya stanzas to Hanuman, each recalling a time he rescued Rama, Sita, Lakshmana or Sugriva, and each ending with the refrain "who in the world does not know that your name is Sankatmochan, remover of troubles?" A closing doha praises his red form. It is traditionally ascribed to Tulsidas and is commonly recited after the Hanuman Chalisa, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Some booklets print the refrain only after the first stanza; it is sung after every stanza and is written out in full here.
