Significance
Purnamadah Purnamidam (Shanti Mantra) Significance
The peace invocation of the Shukla Yajurveda Upanishads, chanted before and after the Isha and Brihadaranyaka Upanishads; the verse itself opens the fifth chapter of the Brihadaranyaka (5.1.1). It teaches that the Whole, Brahman, remains whole even when the whole universe comes forth from it. In recitation it is preceded by 'Om' and followed by the threefold 'shanti', as given here.
