Meaning
Mangal Bhavan Amangal Hari English Meaning
He is the home of all that is auspicious and the remover of all that is not: may he who played in Dasharatha's courtyard, the child Rama, be gracious to me. Rama, Sita-Rama, Sita-Rama, glory, glory to Rama. Whatever Rama has ordained will come to pass; why argue and multiply the branches of debate? Patience, righteousness, a friend and a wife: these four are truly tested in a time of trouble. Whoever has true love for someone will surely come to them; of this there is no doubt. As was the feeling in each one's heart, so did each one see the Lord's form. Hari is infinite, and infinite are the stories of Hari; all the saints tell them and hear them in many ways. This has always been the way of the Raghu clan: life itself may go, but a promise once given must not.

जो मंगल के धाम हैं और अमंगल को हर लेते हैं, वे दशरथ के आँगन में खेलने वाले बालरूप श्रीराम मुझ पर कृपा करें। राम सिया राम, सिया राम, जय जय राम। जो कुछ राम ने रच रखा है, वही होगा; तर्क करके बात की शाखाएँ क्यों बढ़ाई जाएँ? धैर्य, धर्म, मित्र और पत्नी — इन चारों की सच्ची परख विपत्ति के समय होती है। जिसका जिस पर सच्चा प्रेम होता है, वह उसे अवश्य मिलता है — इसमें कोई सन्देह नहीं। जिसके मन में जैसी भावना थी, उसने प्रभु के रूप को वैसा ही देखा। हरि अनन्त हैं और हरि की कथा भी अनन्त है; सब संत उसे अनेक प्रकार से कहते और सुनते हैं। रघुकुल की यह रीति सदा से चली आई है कि प्राण भले ही चले जाएँ, पर दिया हुआ वचन नहीं जाना चाहिए।

Mangal Bhavan Amangal Hari Significance
A much-loved Ram bhajan made of favourite chaupais from Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas, sung with the refrain "राम सिया राम सिया राम जय जय राम". The chaupais are Manas lines (Balkand 112, 52, 259, 241 and 140; Aranyakand 5; Ayodhyakand 28) and are given here in the Gita Press wording; the refrain is a kirtan line, not part of the Manas, and is sung after every chaupai. The opening chaupai became familiar to every household through the 1987 television Ramayan; singers vary the choice and order of the chaupais that follow.
