नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते । शङ्खचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥१॥ नमस्ते गरुडारूढे कोलासुरभयङ्करि । सर्वपापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥२॥ सर्वज्ञे सर्ववरदे सर्वदुष्टभयङ्करि । सर्वदुःखहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥३॥ सिद्धिबुद्धिप्रदे देवि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनि । मन्त्रमूर्ते सदा देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥४॥ आद्यन्तरहिते देवि आद्यशक्तिमहेश्वरि । योगजे योगसम्भूते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥५॥ स्थूलसूक्ष्ममहारौद्रे महाशक्तिमहोदरे । महापापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥६॥ पद्मासनस्थिते देवि परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणि । परमेशि जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥७॥ श्वेताम्बरधरे देवि नानालङ्कारभूषिते । जगत्स्थिते जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥८॥ महालक्ष्म्यष्टकं स्तोत्रं यः पठेद्भक्तिमान्नरः । सर्वसिद्धिमवाप्नोति राज्यं प्राप्नोति सर्वदा ॥९॥ एककाले पठेन्नित्यं महापापविनाशनम् । द्विकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं धनधान्यसमन्वितः ॥१०॥ त्रिकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं महाशत्रुविनाशनम् । महालक्ष्मीर्भवेन्नित्यं प्रसन्ना वरदा शुभा ॥११॥

Mahalakshmi Ashtakam English Meaning
Salutations to you, Mahamaya, great power of the world's illusion, who dwell on the seat of Shri and are worshipped by the gods, who hold the conch, the discus and the mace in your hands. Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. Salutations to you who ride on Garuda, the terror of the demon Kolasura. Goddess who takes away every sin, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. All-knowing one, giver of every boon, terror of all the wicked; Goddess who removes every sorrow, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. Goddess who grants success and understanding, who bestows both enjoyment of the world and liberation; Goddess whose very form is the mantra, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. Goddess without beginning or end, primal power, great sovereign; born of yoga and revealed through yoga, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. You are the gross and the subtle, the supremely fierce, the great power whose vast womb holds all things; Goddess who destroys great sins, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. Goddess seated on the lotus, whose nature is the supreme Brahman; supreme ruler, mother of the world, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. Goddess clad in white, adorned with many ornaments; you who abide throughout the world, mother of the world, Mahalakshmi, I bow to you. The devoted person who recites this hymn of eight verses to Mahalakshmi attains every accomplishment and always gains sovereignty. Reciting it once every day destroys great sins; whoever recites it twice every day is blessed with wealth and grain. Whoever recites it three times every day sees even mighty enemies destroyed, and Mahalakshmi, gracious and auspicious, the giver of boons, is ever pleased with him.

Mahalakshmi Ashtakam Significance
Eight verses in praise of Mahalakshmi spoken by Indra, each ending 'mahalakshmi namo'stu te', followed by three verses on the fruit of reciting them. The sources' colophons call it Indra's hymn, and it is popularly said to come from the Padma Purana. It is one of the most widely recited Lakshmi prayers, traditionally chanted on Fridays, at Diwali and in daily Lakshmi worship.
