Significance
Khamasamana Sutra Significance
The Khamasamana (Pranipata) Sutra is the salutation with which a Shvetambara Jain bows to the Tirthankara or to the guru with the five-limbed prostration — both hands, both knees and the head touching the ground. It is used many times in Samayik, Chaityavandan and Pratikraman, usually before asking the guru's permission for each step. Its words also open the longer guru-vandana of the Avashyaka; Sthanakvasi practice salutes the guru instead with the Tikkhutto formula.
