Significance
Karagre Vasate Lakshmi Significance
A verse recited on waking while looking at one's open palms: Lakshmi dwells at the fingertips, Saraswati in the middle of the hand and Govinda at its base. It belongs to the traditional pratah-smarana (morning remembrance) and is usually followed by the Samudra Vasane verse before one steps onto the ground. Texts differ in the third quarter: several collections, especially South Indian ones, place Gauri at the base of the hand instead of Govinda.
