Meaning
Ganesha Pancharatnam English Meaning
I bow to Vinayaka, who joyfully holds a modaka in his hand and ever leads souls to liberation; who wears the crescent moon as an ornament and protects the worlds at play; the one leader of those who have no leader, slayer of the elephant-demon, who swiftly destroys the misfortune of all who bow to him. I take constant refuge in him, the highest beyond the high: fearsome to those who will not bow, radiant as the newly risen sun, honoured by gods and demons alike, who lifts his devotees out of great calamity; lord of the gods, lord of treasures, lord of elephants, lord of the ganas, the great lord. I bow to the radiant one who brings good to every world and cast down the elephant-demon; great-bellied, most excellent, imperishable, with the face of a noble elephant; a mine of mercy, of patience, of joy and of glory, who gives a clear mind to those who bow to him. I worship the ancient elephant who wipes away the pain of the destitute, the abode of the age-old sacred word, the first-born son of Shiva, who crushes the pride of the gods' enemies; awesome at the dissolution of the world, adorned with serpents such as Dhananjaya, the elephant whose temples flow with ichor. On him alone, the single-tusked one, I meditate without pause: whose tusk shines with surpassing beauty, the son of Shiva who ended Death itself; whose form is beyond thought and without end, who cuts through every obstacle, and who dwells always in the hearts of yogis. Whoever recites these five jewels of the great Ganesha with reverence every day at dawn, holding the lord of the ganas in the heart, soon gains health, freedom from fault, fine learning, good children, a long and settled life, and the eight kinds of prosperity.
