Ambe Tu Hai Jagdambe Kali English Meaning
Mother Ambe, you are Jagadamba, Mother of the world, and you are Kali; victory to Durga who holds the skull-bowl! The whole land sings your virtues; O Mother, we all wave the lamp in your aarti. Mother, heavy trouble has fallen upon your devotees; ride out on your lion, Mother, and fall upon the hosts of demons. Eight-armed one, mightier than hundreds of lions, you alone challenge the wicked. O Mother, we all wave the lamp in your aarti. In this world the bond between mother and child is the purest of all; we have heard of wayward sons, but never of a heartless mother. You show compassion to all and shower nectar, and you take away the sorrows of the suffering. O Mother, we all wave the lamp in your aarti. We do not ask for wealth and riches, nor for silver or gold; Mother, we ask only for a small corner in your heart. You set right everyone's ruined affairs, you guard our honour, and you uphold the virtue of the faithful. O Mother, we all wave the lamp in your aarti. Ambe Tu Hai Jagdambe Kali Significance
The most widely sung Hindi aarti of the Goddess as Durga and Kali, heard in Navratri, at Durga Puja, at night-long jagrans and at Friday worship of the Mother. Its five stanzas call on her to ride her lion against the demons that beset her devotees, praise the pure bond between mother and child, ask not for wealth but for a small place in her heart, and stand before her with the plate of worship. It is a recent devotional song rather than a traditional text; the version here follows the commonly sung text with the fifth stanza, as printed by drikpanchang and bhaktibharat.
