Meaning
Aarti Kunj Bihari Ki English Meaning
Sing the aarti of Kunj Bihari, Krishna who plays in the groves of Vrindavan: Shri Giridhar, lifter of the mountain, Krishna Murari, slayer of the demon Mura. Around his neck is the vaijayanti garland, and the young boy plays sweetly on the flute. Earrings sparkle in his ears: he is Nanda's joy, Nanda's darling. His body glows dark as the sky, and beside him, friend, Radha shines. The wearer of the forest garland stands among the vines, with curls like black bees, a tilak of musk and a radiance like the moon: such is the charming beauty of Shyama's beloved, Shri Giridhar, Krishna Murari. His golden peacock-feather crown gleams; the gods long for a sight of him, and flowers rain down in heaps from the sky. The murchang and the sweet mridang drum sound, the cowherd girls are with him, and boundless is the love of the gopis for Shri Giridhar, Krishna Murari. From his feet came forth the Ganga, Shri Ganga who takes away the stains of the Kali age; remembering her ends delusion. She dwells on Shiva's head amid his matted locks and washes away the mire of sin. Such is the beauty of the feet of Shri Banwari, lord of the forest, Shri Giridhar, Krishna Murari. The sand of the riverbank glitters bright, the flute is playing in Vrindavan, and on every side are gopis, cowherds and cows. He smiles softly and gently, like moonlight from the moon, and the bonds of worldly life are cut: hear the call of this poor beggar, Shri Giridhar, Krishna Murari.

Significance
Aarti Kunj Bihari Ki Significance
The best-loved aarti of Krishna, sung at the close of Krishna worship in homes and temples, above all on Janmashtami. In Braj Bhasha it pictures Krishna as Kunj Bihari, who sports in the groves of Vrindavan: his vaijayanti garland, flute, peacock crown and dark radiance beside the shining Radha, the gopis' boundless love, and his feet, from which the Ganga flows. The text follows the widely printed and sung version (four stanzas after the opening refrain); the Gita Press Aarti Sangrah prints the same stanzas with a few different words.
